Frequently Asked Questions about the Aire-O2® Aspirator Aerator
Answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) about our Series II aerator

  • How many Series II do I require for my application?
  • How do I moor the Series II aerators to the pond?
  • When and why do I have to aerate my pond?
  • Can Series II aerators be used for emergency aeration with diesel engines?
  • How can I be sure that the propellers from the Series II will not damage my species?
  • Are the aerators available in diesel or solar power models?
  • Will the Series II aerators cause pond erosion and bottom scouring?

How many AIRE-O2® Series II do I require for my application?

The amount of total Horsepower and size of Series II necessary for your application depends on many factors. These factors include:

  • Type of species

  • Stocking density of species (species / m2)

  • Target harvest and size of species

  • Pond geometry and depth

  • Amount of water exchanged daily in pond

  • Ambient and water temperature

  • Salinity of water

  • Altitude

  • Pond bottom construction (earthen, concrete or lined)

  • Wind speed

  • Amount of sunlight

  • Without this key data, it is difficult to know for certain how much aeration is required for your application. We have provided you with some simple tools to assist in the budgetary sizing of your project (Sizing Tools) however the best way to truly quantify how much aeration and what size Series II to use for your application is to contact our engineers for technical assistance
    (INQUIRY TO AIII).

How do I moor the Series II aerators to the pond?

Mooring the aerators to the pond is very simple. There are three different ways to secure the aerators for proper installation:

    1. Stake Mooring via bamboo or wooden posts. (Please click here for drawing)
    2. Free Anchor / Drop Anchor Mooring. (Please click here for drawing)
    3. Span Cable Mooring. (Please click here for drawing)

Mooring the aerators is very simple and requires minimal installation time. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate the experts in aeration for assistance (INQUIRY TO AIII).

When and why do I have to aerate my pond?

Aeration is necessary when dissolved oxygen (DO) levels in the pond fall below critical levels. This critical level various from species to species. When DO falls below this critical point, the species in the pond become stressed, stop growing and are susceptible to disease. Typical low density aquaculture applications do not require artificial aeration since the biomass and oxygen demand in the pond is low. As stocking densities become higher, the biomass in your pond also increases causing an overall higher oxygen demand.

Aeration increases the level of DO in the pond so that the species in your pond have adequate oxygen levels to grow properly in a stress free environment. The Series II aerator in particular serves additional critical functions which can further assist your application. These benefits include efficient subsurface mixing which allows for maximum oxygen dispersion and mixing to increase DO levels throughout the pond, and the breakdown of animal and feed wastes, keeping pond bottoms cleaner and decreasing risks of disease

Can Series II aerators be used for emergency aeration with diesel engines?

No. Emergency aeration is used as a temporary, short term remedy to assist in the aeration of your pond during the most critical, late stages just prior to harvesting. Because most ponds are larger than 1 hectare in size, temporary aeration only provides a short-term solution for only a small pocket of the pond. Emergency aerators simply can not aerate the entire pond in such a short period of time.

The best solution is to NOT depend on emergency aeration and provide for a properly installed continuous aeration system from the onset of your production cycle. Studies have proven that the more aeration you install in your pond, the species growth rates, survival, size and harvest will all be uniformly higher. And of course this equates to more money in the aquaculturist’s pockets.

Installed pond aeration also ensures that the species in your pond will not face these high-stress, low-oxygen environments where emergency aeration is required. When species are stressed and DO levels low, they will are susceptible to low growth rates, high mortality and increased chance to contract lethal disease.

How can I be sure that the propellers from the Series II will not damage my species?

Certain species (trout and catfish) and applications (raceways, intensive farming applications) require the usage of our propeller guard to prevent the damaging of species. However, for most applications and species this propeller guard is not required. Please contact us should you have any questions on whether your application will require propeller guards (INQUIRY TO AIII).

Are the aerators available in diesel or solar power models?

No. The Series II aerators are only available in electrical models. (50 or 60 Hz., 1-Ph or 3-Ph and most worldwide voltages are available). Diesel and solar power are not nearly as efficient and dependable as electrical power.

Will the Series II aerators cause pond erosion and bottom scouring?

No. The Series II aerator comes in multiple sizes (1-7.5Hp) which all feature an adjustable angle of entry which can be moved from 30 to 45 degrees to accommodate your pond depth. Please refer to the (sizing tools) section for assistance in helping select the appropriate sized aerator and angle of entry for your application.

If not properly installed correctly, pond erosion and scouring will occur. For example, if you install a 3Hp Series II at 45-degrees in a pond 1.0 meter deep, the plume of the aerator will go directly into the pond bottom causing erosion and scouring. Therefore it is critical to follow our sizing guidelines and contact our factory for assistance so that your Series II are installed correctly (INQUIRY TO AIII).

Why should I buy your Series II aerators when I can buy cheaper copy cats or Asian made aerators?

    For many reasons. These include:

  • Cost of Ownership - Series II aerators are an investment to the pond which require minimal maintenance and have very long operating life cycles. In fact, there are Series II that have been in the field for well over 10 years today. The simplicity of the Series II aerators design only requires minor parts replacement at a fraction of the cost of competitive aerator replacements. It is for this reason why Series II aerators are regarded as a pond investment and not a pond consumable.

  • Superior Performance – Please refer to (How It Works) and (Competition); to understand the benefits of its superior performance and design. These sections explain in detail the numerous design features of the Series II which are critical to a higher harvest for your pond application. Since the Series II aerators lead to a higher harvest per pond than its competitors, each pond and harvest will equate to a higher profit for your farm. Multiply this by the lower cost of ownership and there is no question the Series II aerators is the best value on the marketplace today.
